Nigh of the people I know are low income and getting hit west/fines. I accept H&R Block do my taxes, so not very knowledgeable myself.

He says he will simply cheque a box that says he had coverage and that'south that. Is information technology actually that easy for people to "opt out"? They don't require proof of coverage if you check yes??

Then the merely mode for them to become caught is if they go audited or what?
What are the consequences? I don't desire my buddy to spiral himself over. He's low income and then consequences are not important compared to saving the $300 fine or whatever information technology is...

If y'all are very low income why would you want to hide information technology? Obamacare is supposed to grant dorsum costs to very depression income people, so why does he not accept reward of that? And then he would non need to lie on his revenue enhancement obligation course.

20 states did not expand Medicaid. If you're somewhere similar Florida or Texas, you're pretty much close out of health care if you're low income but not poverty level.

Because 0% is lower?

I think it is highly unlikely that a low income person would be audited. Since this is all new information, the IRS doesn't accept the systems in place to do the automatic cross checking.

The IRS/Department of the Treasury ALREADY knows whether he has health care insurance or not. If he has not already received it, he will before long receive a Form 1095 B which will land that they have no record of him having Health Insurance.

When he ticks off the box on his return that says he HAS health insurance, information technology will conflict with the IRS's info and will raise a Cherry-red Flag...and put him in the audit pile.

It'south not nice to fool with mother nature....nor the IRS.
